The Top 5 Sweetest SF Candy Shops

When it comes to sugar consumption, San Francisco is definitely a town with a sweet tooth. Home to the original Ghirardelli chocolate factory and birthplace of the IT’S IT, you don’t have to look very hard to find a wide array of sweets and confections. We’ve done you the favor of narrowing down our top five favorite candy stores, whose brick and mortar locations are as unique and endearing as the candy they sell. Be sure to stop in for some samples when you come to town, and maybe even take some home to put under the tree!

1. Poco Dolce Confections

Poco Dolce is one of the Dogpatch’s crown jewels. Offering a wide selection of bon bons, toffee, chocolate bars and caramels, it’s hard not to buy it all. For those with a bit more self constraint, Poco Dolce also sells individual bittersweet chocolate tiles in delicious flavors ranging from burnt caramel to aztec chile.

2. Miette

When it comes to candy shops, Miette takes the proverbial cake. When you step inside you’ll feel as though you’ve entered the candy store from the beginning of Willy Wonka, and the urge to find Gene Wilder will be very real. Miette offers chocolates and sweets from all over the world, in addition to freshly made cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.

3. Z. Cioccolato

Do you feel good about free fudge samples? Then Z. Cioccolato is the place for you! In addition to their award winning fudge, you’ll find oversized barrels filled with different varieties of salt water taffy and other candy. They also sell vintage-esque trinkets that make great San Francisco souvenirs.

4. Chocolate Covered

Chocolate Covered has the local SF feel down like no other candy store in the city. Owner Jack Epstein stocks the store with chocolate confections from all over the world, and can tell you about them too. On the hunt for marzipan? Chocolate Covered has you, well, covered.

5. Sugarfina

Last, but certainly not least, is Sugarfina. Home to the “bento box” of candy, Sugarfina sells imported candy that has a very real element of luxury to it. Their online shop gives you the option of curating your own bento box and having it shipped anywhere. Besides, any candy store that sells chocolate bacon toffee is probably doing something right.
